CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

March 15, 2020
CSU IP continues to see an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 globally. In light of this, we previously suspended operations in China, South Korea, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and Denmark. Students have been making their way back to the US or their home country from these locations. Airports in South Korea and Europe are open and operating, though with limited flights. CSU IP is monitoring the situation and aiding our students with the assistance of our staff in respective countries.

On Saturday CSU IP suspended its programs in Chile, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The was done based on the changing rate of new cases as well as the announcement of the US government extending its travel restrictions to the United Kingdom (note, the travel restrictions do not apply to US citizens and permanent residents). CSU IP students in these countries are currently making travel arrangements to return to the US or their home country. Respective CSU campuses will continue to be updated regarding their students’ travel itineraries.

CSU IP currently has programs still operating in Australia, Ghana, Israel, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, and Taiwan. We continue to monitor the situation in these countries. We have messaged students worldwide regarding COVID-19, encouraging students to be cautious and stay up to date with CDC advice regarding hygiene. Further, we are hosting video calls with students from each country to check-in and discuss the situation in detail.

CSU IP will continue to monitor the progress of COVID-19. Further updates regarding CSU IP programs and COVID-19 as it relates to CSU IP may be found here.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

February 26, 2020

The CSU IP office and Dr. Jaishankar Raman, Director, are closely following the events related to the Novel Coronavirus globally. The US State Department Travel Advisory for Italy and South Korea is at Level 2.  This comes with the recommendation to exercise increased caution.   The situation is evolving and, in an effort, to get updated information we are monitoring the US State Department, OSAC, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO).   We are in communication with colleagues at other US universities that have programs in Italy and South Korea.  Our office has been in close communication with the team at University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) since they too have programs in these locations and often with our university partners.

ITALY:   Our staff at the Florence center have been contacting all of our students and documenting their travel in the past 2 weeks.  We have also canceled field trips for the next 2 weeks.  There is a mandatory meeting for all students scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Florence.

SOUTH KOREA: We have reached out to Yonsei University staff and received feedback on the current situation on the campus.  The spring semester is scheduled to start on March 16th, delayed by one week.  An email was sent to all students asking them to respond with their location, current status and their needs.  We are in the process of receiving their feedback.

Currently CSU IP is proceeding ahead with normal academic operations in Italy and will advise students in South Korea to plan for their courses with the start date of March 16th. We are constantly monitoring this issue of coronavirus in real-time, and will advise if any other programmatic implications arise in Asia or elsewhere.  Please continue to visit this site for further information.
