2026 CSUIP INTERNATIONAL FACULTY SEMINAR

OVERVIEW
The International Faculty Partnership Seminars sponsored by the California State University through the Academic Council on International Programs (ACIP) are designed to provide international experiences for faculty of diverse disciplines from all CSU campuses. The mission of the CSU International Programs (CSUIP), a system-wide unit operating from within the CSU Chancellor's Office in Long Beach, is to develop intercultural communication skills and international understanding among CSU students and faculty.
ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION
Faculty members from all CSU campuses and all disciplines are encouraged to participate. Applicants must hold a full-time tenured or tenure track appointment at a CSU campus. Faculty members who will be participating in the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) on or before July 1, 2025 are not eligible for selection. Applicants are only allowed to participate in a CSUIP faculty seminar once every five years.When describing their involvement in international programs, applicants must make a clear distinction between CSUIP and private or faculty-led study abroad programs.
Selection of CSU participants will be the responsibility of the Faculty Affairs Committee of the ACIP. Approximately 20 faculty members will be selected to participate. The Committee will seek a broad distribution of disciplines and participation from across campuses.

The application deadline is March 1, 2026. The Seminar Selection Committee will meet during February and selection decisions will be announced by April 1, 2026.

INSTRUCTIONS: Please have the information and documents listed below readily available before starting the application.
- Current Curriculum Vitae.
- If you apply to be a presenter, prepare a presentation abstract (maximum 300 words).
- Approval letter from the Dean of your College.
- Letter of support from a chair addressing two or more of the following:
- Possible connections of your research or creative activities to the seminar theme.
- Your effectiveness in disseminating previous professional development activities on your campus.
- Your demonstrated commitment to the system-wide CSU International Programs.
- Sources of campus funding or support for your participation in the seminar
- Statement Intent: 300-word statement addressing each of the following:
- How will the seminar contribute to your teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and/or service?
- Describe your recent involvement in international programs (e.g., faculty-led programs, exchange programs, study abroad).
- Provide a concrete plan as to how you will promote CSUIP upon your return.

PREVIOUS SEMINARS
TOKYO, JAPAN June 19-23, 2023
In 2023, CSU International Programs (CSU IP) International Faculty Partnership Seminar took place in Tokyo, Japan, at Waseda University and Tsukuba University from June 19 – 23, 2023. The seminar provided international experiences for faculty of diverse disciplines from the CSU campuses. Participants learned more about CSU IP and the experiences of students participating in them while interacting with faculty colleagues from our partner universities and CSU campuses.
TÜBINGEN, GERMANY SUMMER 2022
In 2022, this conference focused on interdisciplinary dialogues. To frame the discussions, the seminar was structured along four tracks encompassing a wide range of disciplines. All sessions included presenters from both Baden-Württemberg and California State Universities.PARIS, FRANCE SUMMER 2019
In 2019, the CSU and MICEFA celebrated 25 years of partnership. The France Seminar focused on interdisciplinary dialogues that addressed France and California's shared similar challenges of migration, managing diversity, climate change, sustainable energy, cultural identities, and an evolving marketplace. All sessions included presenters from both California State Universities and MICEFA Member Universities (Paris and its region).
ACCRA, GHANA SUMMER 2018
CSU IP Ghana International Faculty Seminar Conference Proceedings
In 2018, the CSU and the University of Ghana celebrated 12 years of partnership. The theme of the seminar was 'Ghana Calls'. It comes from the title of a poem written by a renowned scholar and Pan-Africanist Dr. W.E.B. DuBois. During the seminar attendees from various disciplines gained new insights and learned techniques to approach education, research, and communication in Ghanain and African context.
